What the upgrades actually do
✦ Premium Audio
Lyra Stories uses two different voice systems. The standard tier uses warm, professionally tuned narration voices from a curated library. Premium Audio routes through a higher-quality voice model that interprets breath cues, sighs, whispers, and emotional inflection — much closer to a real audiobook performance. The difference is most noticeable on long passages and tender scenes.
✦ Free Pacing
The default romance tier uses a built-in story structure: tension builds gradually over ten chapters, with the first kiss landing as the emotional payoff at chapter ten, followed by a deepening epilogue. With Free Pacing enabled, that structure is removed entirely — the story goes wherever you take it, at whatever speed feels right. For writers who want full control rather than a guided arc.
✦ Spicy
Some stories want more heat than classic romance allows. With Spicy enabled, once the first kiss happens the story can include tasteful adult intimacy between consenting adult characters. The emotional grounding stays — these aren't crude scenes, they're warm continuations of the connection you've built. If you've ever wanted to write a romance that doesn't have to fade to black, this is that.
How limits work
Reading is always included. Writing and re-reading the chapters of your stories doesn't count against any monthly limit. Narrated chapters (where Lyra reads the story aloud in a real voice) and scene illustrations are the metered features because they cost real money to generate.
Active stories are stories you can edit and add to. When you reach your tier's active-story cap, you can archive an old story to start a new one. Archived stories are still readable.
On cancellation, your stories enter a frozen state — fully readable but you can't add new chapters, narration, or images. Resubscribe any time and they unlock again. They stay yours as long as your account exists.
During beta these limits are not actively enforced. Once we leave beta, your existing usage history will be considered when setting your first month's tier.
